The revolutionary Nintendo Switch console has had some impressive record setting take place on its first initial release weekend. Nintendo stated that the Switch has beaten every single launch sales record for all Nintendo systems ever released in America before.
Reporter Nick Wingfield of the New York Times shared the sales numbers on Twitter today. After previously interviewing Reggie Fils-Aime, it was found that these numbers represent the first two days of sales: March 3 – 4. This is across Nintendo’s release in North America, South America, Central America, and Canada.
What is even more impressive is that Wingfield noted that the Switch even surpassed the Wii’s numbers. The Nintendo Wii sold an astounding 600,000 units in 6 days in the same regions. We will have to wait to see exact numbers in order to make a better comparison.
Also to note: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was the best-selling stand-alone launch game in all of Nintendo history, outselling even Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64. These numbers don’t compare to a pack in games such as Wii Sports which came with every new Wii console at its launch.
